Wanderlust meets the sea's melody

The "Zeulenrodaer Meer" in Thuringia's Vogtland region has a unique charm. Everyone benefits from sustainable, gentle tourism.

The entire vacation region was first opened to tourists in 2012. Previously, the Zeulenroda reservoir served as a drinking water source for much of eastern Thuringia.

Arrival and Overnight Stay

The strategic location between the Hermsdorfer Kreuz junction on the A9 and the Schmölln exit on the A4 makes driving here convenient. The region is also located along the railroad route that connects Leipzig and Hof. This means that nothing can prevent you from having a comfortable rail travel. Furthermore, the Zeulenroda rail station is barrier-free, making it easy for people who use baby carriages or wheelchairs to go.

If you wish to spend your vacation at the "Zeulenrodaer Meer" and are looking for a place to stay, you will quickly notice that the area is full of tiny guesthouses and vacation apartments/houses. However, hotel fans will receive their money's worth here. The recognized four-star Bio-Seehotel Zeulenroda is situated directly on the Zeulenroda Dam. In addition to a stunning view and an outstanding spa, the hotel has several barrier-free accommodations.

Visitors in wheelchairs can book the newly built Manoah vacation homes as well as several vacation homes in the Zadelsdorf bungalow community. Other barrier-free accommodations can be found at the Kastanienhof and Pension Sonnenhof.

The Zeulenroda Dam route is a designated quality route that includes over 90% natural trails. Our hikers have particularly unusual experiences on the 45-kilometer-long dam trail that circles the two reservoirs in the Weidatal. Swans and other animals can be seen breeding at the Riedelmühle reservoir. Even the rare kingfisher can be observed on occasion.

The 3 km round track around the Riedelmühle reservoir is also accessible with a walking frame, wheelchair, or baby carriage. However, it is best to drive to the Läwitz hiking parking lot. The 3.5-kilometer-long promenade path connecting the Bio-Seehotel and the Zeulenroda lido also takes hikers directly along the lake with no barriers. Children can also burn off steam at the numerous play and sports stations or learn how to read a sundial. The lido has a slope that leads directly into the water, making swimming fun for all.

Tips for all seasons

On cloudy days, our Waikiki bathing world encourages you to relax among the palm trees. The building is only partly barrier-free. Before you arrive, speak with the operator to get more comprehensive information. Of course, our municipal museum or the Zeulenroda animal enclosure, which is freely accessible at all times, can readily reduce boredom.
